take a stand

I saw this on digital buzz and thought this was a pretty neat idea.

France’s National Library, created this digital instillation to help raise awareness and generate petition signatures for a movement against the death penalty.

Featuring two large screens mounted on either side of a hallway, one side with a prisoner about to be executed, and the other, a soldier standing tall, aim ready. In between, on the floor, marks a large circle where people are prompted to stand, stopping the impending execution as the installation detects the person with ultrasonic sensors and a weight plate.

The installation also used a QR code on the floor to drive petition signatures instantly as they were scanned… I love the concept, the use of technology and the art direction, but I can’t help but think they could have taken this experience just a little further, both in interactivity and emotion.
